Something brought you here.
Maybe it was a newsletter that landed in your inbox at exactly the right moment. Maybe it was a video that said something you'd been trying to articulate for years. Maybe it was a Google search at midnight that started with "why do I keep" or "what is wrong with me" and somehow ended here.
However you found us, I'm glad you did. And I want to start by telling you something I mean completely sincerely: nothing is wrong with you.
I know that might be hard to believe right now. Because if nothing is wrong with you, why does it feel like you keep hitting the same walls? Why do the same patterns keep showing up in different situations with different people in different years of your life? Why does the exhaustion not go away even when things are objectively fine?
Here's what I've come to understand after years of reading the research, watching the patterns, and having the same conversation with smart, capable, caring people who are tired in a way that sleep doesn't fix: we're not broken. We're protecting ourselves. And there's a significant difference between those two things.
That difference is what Feel Change Build is built on.
What is Feel Change Build?
FCB is a community, a newsletter, and a framework all built around one central idea: the patterns that are keeping you stuck aren't character flaws. They're sophisticated protective mechanisms that developed for real reasons, usually good ones, at a time when they were exactly what you needed. They kept you safe. They helped you navigate. They got you here.
And then somewhere along the way they started costing more than they were worth. The protection that once served you is now limiting you. The armor that kept you safe is now keeping you small. And the life you actually want to be living is sitting just on the other side of understanding what's actually going on underneath.
That's where FCB comes in.
Feel Change Build has three phases and they work together as a complete cycle rather than a linear progression you move through once and finish.
FEEL is where everything starts. Not because emotions are the most important thing but because unfelt emotions don't disappear. They go underground and run our choices from somewhere we can't see them. They show up as procrastination and perfectionism and the particular kind of exhaustion that doesn't have an obvious cause. The FEEL work is about learning to actually process what's happening instead of storing it, and it's built on Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor's research showing that the physical wave of any emotion lasts just 90 seconds if we stop re-triggering it. That one piece of neuroscience changes everything about how we relate to difficult feelings.
CHANGE is where we look at the patterns. The Over-Achiever who ties her worth to her output. The People Pleaser who has gotten so good at meeting everyone else's needs that she can't find her own anymore. The Controller who grips tighter as the world gets more unpredictable. The Invisible who has made herself so small she's not sure anyone can actually see her. The Hyper-Independent who would rather exhaust herself than risk asking for help. These patterns are not who we are. They're what we learned. And what was learned can be unlearned, gently, without shame, with genuine curiosity about why we developed them in the first place.
BUILD is where we take the clarity that comes from feeling things properly and the freedom that comes from understanding our patterns and we make something real with it. Not the perfect version. Not the version we'll start when things calm down or when we feel more ready or when the circumstances finally cooperate. The version that's possible right now, in our actual lives, with their actual complications and their actual beauty.
Feel what's happening. Change what's running underneath. Build from where you actually are.
The Feel Change Build Community
I want to be honest with you about what you're going to find here, because I think honesty is a better welcome than a sales pitch.
This is not a place where someone who has it all figured out will hand down wisdom from a great height. I don't have it all figured out. I'm a writer, a researcher, an obsessive reader of science and psychology and human behavior, and I am genuinely in this alongside you. Everything I share here is something I'm working through too or have recently worked through or am planning to work through next Thursday when it inevitably comes up again.
What you'll find is a weekly newsletter that takes real science, neuroscience, behavioral psychology, the research on emotions and patterns and what change actually requires, and brings it into contact with real life. Not in an academic way. In a "I couldn't stop thinking about this and I need to tell someone" way.
You'll find a community of people who are asking the same kinds of questions you are. Who are tired of the same kinds of exhaustion. Who are ready to understand themselves better and build something more intentional from that understanding.
And you'll find a framework that meets you exactly where you are. Whether you're just starting to notice the patterns or you've been in therapy for years and want a community that speaks the same language, whether you're in the middle of a major life transition or just have a persistent sense that something could be different, FCB has an entry point for you.
Where to Start
If you're brand new, the best place to begin is with the newsletter. Subscribe below and you'll get a welcome letter that introduces you to the five protective patterns with a question at the end that I really want you to answer. Your reply will help me understand where you are and what you need, and it will start a conversation that I hope continues for a long time.
If you're ready to go deeper, explore the community. Introduce yourself. Tell us what brought you here. You don't have to have the right words or a tidy story. Just start somewhere.
And if you're somewhere in the middle, just look around. Read a few posts. See what resonates. There's no right way to begin.
The only thing that matters is that you're here. And that you know, from the very first moment, that you belong here exactly as you are.
Not when you've figured it out. Not when you've fixed the broken parts. Right now, with everything you're carrying and everything you're questioning and everything you're quietly hoping might be different.
Welcome to Feel Change Build. We're so glad you found us.
Have a lovely day! — Kate
